ROBERT LEWIS CLARK
Award winning, self-taught artist, Robert Lewis Clark, was born and raised in Chicago. He works principally in mixed media. His development as an artist began at an early age; he learned the craft of mixing colors and the im-portance of precision while helping his father paint homes. As a teenager he performed at numerous art music festivals with his break dancing crew. He would wander away from his peers to explore the art exhibits and engage in conversation with the local artisans. Because of his ear-lier experience as a commercial painter he found himself in-trigued by the paintings and their makers.
Never receiving formal training allowed Clark to develop his own unorthodox painting style-largely uninfluenced by artistic tradition and formal theory. The refreshing conse-quence is an body of work that captures his essence but stands outside the main stream. Clark’s blend of method and improvisation uniquely manifest his personal psycho-logical and psychosocial circumstances.
