Residency Statement/Area of curiosity:

The work I’ve been developing has been a meditation on the building and distributing of historical archives while negotiating how one might replicate and/or transfer location. Initially, I was attempting to execute this possibility by converting materials from the home-lands of the folks depicted into pigments. Scrap wood, in particular, has been beneficial to this aspiration.

I am often making use of charcoal in the process of producing the deep blacks that saturate my prints. The charcoal carries everything that haunts us.

More recently,  I’ve been experimenting with casting prints. Making concrete slab castings of the work has conjured new aesthetics and advanced the notion of location transference I’m attempting to work through. However, this introduction of new materials may also give rise to new considerations. Through these experiments, I’m hoping to find a vocabulary for this process. And in the face of racism hopefully, through these experiments, I can build a platform of resistance.
