Holographic High Priestess
Blanc Gallery, 4445 S King Drive, Chicago, IL 60653
(Part of Terrain Biennial 2021)
Holographic High Priestess is a video of a holographic work from live performance, projected as an apparition, a monumental visitation by an ethereal, otherworldly figure, at Blanc Gallery in historic Bronzeville, Chicago beginning Saturday, October 2 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. CST with future “appearances” to be announced at terrainexhibitions.org, on our calendar page and at IG @DenengeTheFirst
The latest in a series by Duyst-Akpem featuring remixed and imagined archetypal figures such as Califia–the BIPOC warrior queen for whom California is named–this site-specific work bridges sacred and secular, riffing on histories of appearances by spiritual entities. Holographic High Priestess was originally presented as an audience-interactive performance for NASA/Blumberg-sponsored Becoming Interplanetary/Decolonizing Mars Symposium, U.S. Library of Congress. Hologram developed in collaboration with C Alex Clark.
